Richard Pierce “Richie” Havens (January 21, 1941 – April 22, 2013) was an American folk singer and guitarist. The World Health Organization reported an alert to a new strain of “bird flu” influenza circulating in China called H7N9. The WHO is urging health providers to notify patients who traveled to the Asian nation to be mindful if they begin experiencing flu-like symptoms. As of April 22, 2013 there have been 105 human cases, all in China with 20 confirmed deaths from the H7N9 virus. A death rate close to 19%. That percentage has alarmed experts since 2009′s H1N1 avian flu virus reported 162,380 cases with an overall mortality rate of 0.71%.
