Code Pink: There's blood on your hands Condi

Condoleezza Rice was recently speaking at Stanford when students asked her an excellent question on waterboarding and torture at which point she pulled a “Nixon.”

“The president instructed us that nothing we would do would be outside of our obligations, legal obligations under the Convention Against Torture.”

“I didn’t authorize anything. I conveyed the authorization of the administration to the agency, that they had policy authorization, subject to the Justice Department’s clearance. That’s what I did.”

“The United States was told, we were told, nothing that violates our obligations under the Convention Against Torture, and so by definition, if it was authorized by the president, it did not violate our obligations under the Convention Against Torture.”

IYFR: She allowed torture to happen, but it was okay because Bush said it was. Rice needs to change her last name to Nixon.

“We’re considering this as an option,” Environmental Protection Agency spokeswoman Adora Andy said Wednesday, emphasizing that while a final decision has not been made it was accurate to describe this as the administration’s “preferred option.”

The change _ the first U.S.-proposed mandatory global cut in greenhouse gases _ would transform the ozone treaty into a strong tool for fighting global warming.he Obama administration, in a major environmental policy shift, is leaning toward asking 195 nations that ratified the U.N. ozone treaty to enact mandatory reductions in hydrofluorocarbons, according to U.S. officials and documents obtained by The Associated Press.

President Obama was handed a severe economic collapse, global distain, two wars an education disaster and a country in neglect.  With that and after 100 days, how do you think Obama is doing? Post your comments.

Republicans SNOW – GRAHAM: We Have A Problem!

See full size imageSen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, one of the few remaining moderate Republicans in the Senate, said Tuesday that Arlen Specter’s abandonment of the GOP is “devastating,” both “personally and I think for the party.”

“I’ve always been deeply concerned about the views of the Republican Party nationally in terms of their exclusionary policies and views towards moderate Republicans,” said Snowe, who has been approached, she said, by Democrats in the past about switching parties.

Specter’s switch to the Democratic Party “underscores the blunt reality” that the GOP is not a welcome place for moderates, she said.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) said it was a soul-searching moment for Republicans, and he likened the switch to what happened in 1995 when some Southern Democrats jumped parties after Republicans won control of Congress. “We have to broaden the party,” Mr. Graham said. “We have to find places in the party for people who couldn’t win in South Carolina.”

Last fall, Democrats outnumbered Republicans at the polls by the biggest margin in network exit polls going back to the 1982 midterms.

You have to wish them luck. But don’t hold your breath.

Shane Murphy to Rush: I Won’t Tolerate Disgusting Hate Speech

See full size imageEarlier this month, hate radio host Rush Limbaugh brought attention to the fact that the hijackers of the Maersk Alabama ship were “black Muslim teenagers.” “Now, just imagine the hue and cry had a Republican president ordered the shooting of black teenagers on the high seas,” said Limbaugh, later joking, “If only President Obama had known that the three Somali community organizers are actually young black Muslim teenagers, I’m sure he wouldn’t have given the order to shoot.” Yesterday, Shane Murphy, the second-in-command of the Maersk, returned home and sharply criticized Limbaugh’s remarks:

It feels great to be home,” Murphy said. “With the exception of Rush Limbaugh who is trying to make this into a race issue. It’s disgusting.”

The president did the right thing. It’s a war. It’s about good versus evil. And what you (Limbaugh) said is evil, that is hate speech. I won’t tolerate it,” Murphy said.
