HOPE TO NOPE

Dear President Obama

As this story on Yahoo.com news indicates you are now essentially pleading for “civility” on the part of Republicans in the political process.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100129/ap_on_re_us/us_obama

Despite having been beaten about the head a billion times in the last year by the party of no you patently refuse to except that the Republicans do not care.

During the State of the Union address you seemed shocked that the Republicans didn’t respond positively to anything you said or proposed.  Why should they?  They are doing what their base wants and the Republicans base wants you out of office and discredited at any cost. So, every one of those Republicans last night was garnering support and votes by giving you the cold shoulder. Still you were too blind and myopic to see that.

Despite all of that you continue on this deluded path of thinking the Republicans will want to work with you. They won’t. Ever. Let that sink in.

A year ago we were thinking of you as “hope”  Now myself and many other hard core liberals view you as “hope to nope.” 

You and your presidency are a failure at this point. And you are too idealistic to change a damned thing. We elected you on these premises:  1) you were going to get us out of Iraq.  2) You were going to close Guantanamo Bay.  3) You were going to put people back to work. Those were the big things.

A year later what has happened?  1) We are still in Iraq and expanding in Afghanistan (for no apparent reason). 2) You are chickening out on closing Guantanamo Bay. 3) Unemployment has continued to increase.

Instead of doing what you said you were going to do you have focused on being nice. You held a beer summit for a couple of people who in the grand scheme of things don’t matter.  You give great oratorical speeches but they aren’t followed up with action.  You have squandered all of your political capital on health care reform and the end result wont even include the public option that was the focus of your committment.

You have failed. Miserably.  The Republicans have triumphed magnificently.  When Sarah Palin is sitting in the Oval Office on January 21, 2013 we will have nobody to blame but you and your refusal to do what your base wanted you to do.

Stop talking and do something.  Tell the Democrats to get in line or switch parties. Tell Mitch McConnell to go to hell and take John Boner with him.

Be a man for Christ’s sake. Show us some guts and determination. Grow a spine.  That or do a Sarah Palin and resign early and let someone else lead the nation. You obviously can’t.

    2. Craig, you are absolutely right about this. Obama is singing koom bye ya with a bunch of neo cons that don’t give a shit what obama thinks and obama’s ratings are falling, it’s already at 51%. Pandering to the neo con GOP is what cost the dems massachusetts senate seat and will cost them more power this coming november if they don’t start getting rid of the fucking corruption in their own party. The bi partisan bullshit that obama is trying to do is destroying the dem party and causing his rating to fall, just like bush’s was in his first year and afterwards. Pandering to neo cons is NOT helping the democrats.
