Sarah Palin has that magic touch. Three of the four candidates she endorsed in Tuesday’s Republican primary elections were victorious: California’s Carly Fiorina v Barbara Boxer; South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley v Terry Branstad – and others so not worth mentioning. But just as John McCain learned in 2008, these victors will discover in November that Palin’s magic is like Cinderella’s carriage: Just when the party’s getting hot it’s pumpkin time.
Somehow, somewhere, someone ordained Palin the new head of the GOP, with special Tea Bag honors, and a crown, and have deluded themselves into believing that who and what she touches today will mystically turn into November 2nd gold. Truth is, it’ll be just the opposite. She’s gonna single-handedly bring down the GOP’s chances of winning back power. Just ask ole Johnny Boy.
Case in point Nevada, where Tea Bag Party darling Sharron Angle won the GOP’s nomination and will take on the once highly vulnerable Majority Leader Harry Reid. Angle, widely believed to be the weakest of the three Republicans who vied for the spot, just handed Reid a gift; his best chance yet to retain his Senate seat. Reid’s campaign, in an email Wednesday, is already painting her as the radical Lipton Loon she is: She wants to repeal health care reform; is against financial reform; seeks to cut Social Security benefits; and scoffs at global warming. Thank you Sarah Palin.
Over in South Carolina, Palin is betting that voters want to trade in their outgoing philandering Gov. Mark Sanford with the allegedly twice philandering Haley. Again I say, Thank You Sarah Palin.
Sarah and The Tea Baggers can crow all they want, and the mainstream media can stir this hyperbolic pot and make her out to be the Great Anointer, but her arctic awesomeness will last only as long as the primaries will allow. This is exhibition baseball folks, not the regular season. Just ask ole Johnny McMaverick. He got a firsthand dose of reality in terms of what mainstream Republicans and independents want. And…um….er….it wasn’t Palin’s brand of dim-witted, snarky, polarizing politics.
On the morning of November 3rd, Democrats across the country will be saying Thank You Sarah Palin. They might even toss in a heartfelt gracias as well to Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, Newt, Bachmann and the inimitable tea-totin’ team of Rand and Ron.

Over the weekend, the tea party protests — organized by corporate lobbyist-run groups Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks — were scenes of violence and hate towards gay and African American Democratic members of Congress. Around the same time, acts of vandalism have occurred around the country against local Democratic Party offices and against Democratic members of Congress. As the Washington Post reported today, “some of the vandalism appears to have been instigated by an Alabama blogger, Mike Vanderboegh, who encouraged his readers to throw bricks at the windows of Democratic headquarters across the country.
“To all modern Sons of Liberty: THIS is your time. Break their windows. Break them NOW.”
Vanderboegh is a member of an Alabama militia group who is headlining an open-carry gun rally in Northern Virginia next month. In an interview with Alan Colmes yesterday, Vanderboegh justified his call for vandalism and said the attacks are warning shots because people like him will next threaten the life of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and fight health reform with “a thousand little Waco’s”:
VANDERBOEGH: I am telling you we are motivated to break windows, we feel a deadly threat from the Federal government and the orders that the Democrat party has given us. [...]
COLMES: You’re telling people to break the windows of Democratic headquarters. You’re telling people to commit acts of vandalism. You’re supporting breaking the law.
VANDERBOEGH: May I tell you my personal motive for doing this? I’m trying to save the lives of Nancy Pelosi, and every one of these people who do not understand the unintended consequences of their actions.[...] Because they are not paying attention to the million of people across this deepening divide that politics no longer avails them. [...] We refuse to participate in the system, and we refuse to pay the fines, and we refuse arrest. Now where do you suppose that’s going but a thousand little Waco’s.
The Anti Tax Tea Party, Doesn’t Know Much About Taxes

Bruce Barlett at Forbes.com recently published a great article pointing out, at the latest DC rally, how members of the Tea Party are misinformed about taxes yet the ones screaming the loudest about how screwed they’re getting.
Bruce Barlett, and his friend David Frum, enlisted some interns to interview as many Tea Partiers as possible, in DC, on a few basic questions. According tho their survey 57 responses from a crowd that numbered between 300 and 500 people.
True to form, the Tea Party protest participants did not disappoint. They failed .. miserably

Pile of Palin – Do Not Pay Your Taxes
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Records show that Sarah Palin hasn’t paid any property taxes on cabins that have been built on two backcountry plots partially owned by the former Alaska governor.
There are no tax assessments for the two-story, house-sized cabins, a workshop and a sauna spotted Thursday in an aerial survey. Property taxes totaling $156.13 were paid on the land in 2009 — but that bill did not include anything for the structures because the local assessor didn’t know about the new construction nearly 100 miles north of Anchorage.
The issue has attracted the attention of local tax officials who conducted the scheduled aerial survey of properties in the area on Thursday. The area is accessible only by floatplane, snowmobile or four-wheeler.
Dave Dunivan, the assessor for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, said such a survey had not been done there in five years, before construction started on the cabins.
Palin’s attorney, Thomas Van Flein, said it is not the responsibility of property owners to report structures that go up on their land.
“It is the borough’s job,” he said in an e-mail. “The property taxes on this parcel are fully paid and have never been delinquent.”
