Why Did Paul Ryan LIE about Janesville Plant Closing??

Paul Ryan LiarDid Paul Ryan have to LIE during the biggest speech of his life at the Republican Convention? Apparently so, because that’s what he did. He LIED.

Paul Ryan LIED saying President Obama  failed to rescue an auto factory in Janesville, Wisconsin. One that Obama vowed to keep open — one that closed in 2008, under President George W. Bush.

“I remember President Obama visiting it when he was first running, saying he’ll keep that plant open,” Ryan said  describing the  GM factory in Janesville. “One more broken promise.” There’s only one problem. It was already closed under Bush.

Ryan also blamed rising gas prices under Obama for the closing. He championed a complaint in an interview with a local ABC affiliate, suggesting it showed that Obama’s auto rescue was a sham.

“It didn’t help Janesville,” he said. “They shut our plant down. It didn’t help Kenosha. I represent there; they shut down the Chrysler plant.”

Why did Paul Ryan lie? Easy …. How else can they win?

What did Ryan say that was actually a lie? The plant continued to employ workers in assembly of Isuzu vehicles until June of 2009.

Obama, on the other hand, pledged to the workers that “if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years.” Wow! Corporatism! Rent-seeking! Government controlling the means of production!

But you’re not thinking very well at all. The plant actually did close sometime after Obama’s speech. How does that make Ryan’s claim that Obama pledged to work for a bright future for the plant a lie? Whether it closed when Bush or Obama was a president is inconsequential: Obama simply had no business campaigning to plant workers by instilling in them some false hope that trheir plant might be spared if only government would “support” them with “assistance.”

Ryan explicitly stated that when Obama spoke at the plant, it was already in trouble. He’s not running from that fact. He’s simply observing that the campaign rhetoric and what Obama actually delivered — even with a huge GM bailout that taxpayers will remain on the hook for for billions of dollars! — don’t match each other. The company sucked and even extraordinary government intervention couldn’t substantiate whatever hope the campaigner instilled in those workers that day.
