Even with all that big money pouring in, most major Polls are showing President Obama more than 5 points ahead of Mitt Romney and up 8 points in others. Obama is also leading in many swing states and has pulled ahead with the independent and men vote.
Even FOX has Obama ahead by more than 8 points with CNN and Reuters showing similar numbers.
“The president would take 49 percent of the vote compared to Romney’s 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup if the election were held today, the poll found. Last month, Obama had a four percentage-point edge of 45 percent to 41 percent. This marks the second time this year the president has had a lead outside the poll’s margin of sampling error.
Obama’s advantage comes largely from increased support among independents, who now pick him over Romney by 11 percentage points. Some 30 percent of independents are undecided. Last month, Obama had a four-point edge among independents, while Romney had the advantage from April through early June.”
This latest series of polls have shown President Obama with support levels far beyond what one would expect at this point in the campaign but a series of missteps, and questionable political advice has left former Governor Romney with gap possibly to wide to fill.
Romney’s tax returns, flip flops on issues and his European missteps has left the RNC throwing up a lot of deflection dust and with Romney’s polls tanking, the RNC is hoping for a Hail Mary after the typical convention spike.
Governor Romney had been inching up in the polls for most of April, May and June but since Obama’s initial hit on Romney’s Bain Capital record, the Governors campaign has not been able to grab solid grounds on any issues.
“The Democrats’ current strategy of just pummeling Romney on Bain and on the economy has been kind of a kitchen sink thing,” said Ipso pollster Chris Jackson. “Even if it’s not necessarily hurt Romney, it’s given him no opportunity to build a lead.”
As of now, polls are showing Romney still has not built a “solutions” case that the voters are looking for and he’s almost our of time.
