Security guard shot at conservative lobbying group’s headquarters

A security guard has been shot at the headquarters of the Family Research Council, the Associated Press reports.

Police say the guard was shot in the arm, and that one person has been taken into custody. The guard is conscious and breathing.

In a statement, the council’s president, Tony Perkins, said “The police are investigating this incident. Our first concern is with our colleague who was shot today,” according to the National Journal. “Our concern is for him and his family.”

The group is a conservative advocacy organization that has consistently spoken out against both same sex marriage and abortion rights. Last month, Perkins spoke out against Google’s “Legalize Love” campaign aimed at countries where homosexuality is treated as a criminal offense, saying the company “shouldn’t be surprised by the blow back.”
